Before this project, Square sellers received notifications of suspicious payments through emails, often time having to go through more than a few screens to reach a conclusion on what to do with the payment. This process costed time and resources that our small business owners don't have in plenty. So we set out to rethink this experience:

How might sellers effectively get their eyes and act on suspicious payments before they become losses?

Intervention, at the right time, at the right place

Given the nature of entrepreneurship, Square sellers are constantly running multiple tasks, split between multiple priorities at any given time. The challenge then becomes surfacing this alert in a timely and effective manner so that sellers can choose to intervene before it's too late. To do this, we explored many different touch points between Square and sellers, including dashboard, mobile app, SMS, emails, and push notifications.
